Autumn and Bonfire Night in Cumbria

Cumbria and the Lake District are among the best places in the UK to enjoy a spell of country living this Autumn. As the weather turns and the cold moves in, the colours of Autumn sweep over the fells and we relish the chance to light our wood-burning stove and cosy up to the pitter-patter of rain on the windows. Of course, it wouldn’t be Autumn without Bonfire Night and some fireworks! Read on for some of the ‘hottest’ events this November... We do still have some availability in our Threshing Barn around Bonfire Night - if you'd like to book your cosy stay with us you can do so here...

Lowther Castle - Fire & Feasting

Set against the specially illuminated, imposing ruins of the castle, an explosive evening of fireworks and festivities awaits visitors. The organisers of Kendal Calling - From the Fields - are teaming up with Lowther Castle to set the night ablaze in the Fire Garden and keep guests warm and merry with a fully-heated, outdoor bar. Live music acts will be performing all night and there will be activities galore to keep little ones entertained. Taking place on Saturday the 4th of November, tickets will cost £9.50 for adults and £7.50 for children.

Carlisle Fireshow

This year marks the 30th Fireshow to have taken place, which is a testament to the enduring popularity of this bonfire and firework event. It attracts crowds in excess of 35,000 people to the giant bonfire, which has featured in The Times Top 10 Bonfires list. With a fairground and food stalls set up to keep visitors entertained in the run up to the firework display, the Fireshow is an excellent option for families staying in our gorgeous Threshing Barn. Held on Saturday the 4th of November, entrance is free although charity donations will be welcome.

Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa

If the crowds don’t appeal, head to Armathwaite Hall’s Remember Remember Event on Sunday the 5th November. Visitors will enjoy a bonfire and fireworks before being served a pie and pea supper with dessert - everything you could want for a traditional Bonfire Night. Ticket prices include the warming meal, and will cost £19.95 for adults and £12.95 for children.
