Five wonderful reasons to visit Cumbria and the Lake District in Spring...

Spring in Cumbria and the Lake District is a beautiful time of year for exploring the lakes, fells and gorgeous countryside around our Threshing Barn – there are so many things to do and see!

We’ve rounded up the top reasons why you should visit us in Springtime…

The Lambs…
Lambs are an iconic symbol of Spring and in Cumbria they are everywhere! The fells and fields are dotted with fluffy playful lambs and you can take the kids to Walby Farm Park, just a short drive from the Threshing Barn, where they can learn to feed the resident little ones.

Daffodils…
The Lakes are practically synonymous with the poetry of Wordsworth and his daffodils. Be inspired like the great poet himself and head to Ullswater to see the very flowers that led him to pen ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’.  You could stop off at 1863 at Pooley Bridge for a bite to eat too.

Beatrix Potter…
Spring is a time of rebirth and new life and the abundance of wildlife in the Lakes is what inspired Beatrix Potter to create her classic children’s books. Bring the books to life for the kids by paying a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter, where you can see Peter Rabbit in his garden and Mrs Tiggy-winkle in her kitchen.

The spring of Spring…
Climb a fell or walk part of Hadrian's Wall and look out across the landscape to see green beginning to spread across the countryside and life start to bloom. Make like an early bird and head out first thing in the morning to catch the dawn chorus and see birds returning from their Winter migrations. We have lots of beautiful walks right from our doorstep.

Festivals and events…
Spring is a great time for festivals in Cumbria. This year, head over to Keswick for Words by the Water at Theatre by the Lake; an event of words, books and ideas, right on the shores of Derwentwater. Lowther Castle is running some wonderful events in April and May too.
